Dear members and patrons of Macquarie University Sport,

While Macquarie University Sport and Aquatic Centre continues to operate under COVIDSafe procedures, we wanted to take the time to thank all members and guests who have trained with us since the centre re-opened on Monday 15th June 2020.

Fitness Australia recently advised the sector there has been more than 6.26 million check-ins across 423 gyms since they re-opened in NSW.

The additional safety practices that we have committed to at MUSAC, such as staff cleaning regimens, hand sanitiser stations throughout the venue, dedicated COVID Marshall and contact tracing measures are all working.

Your continued adherence to the COVIDSafe Terms and Conditions, and our COVIDSafe procedures is greatly appreciated. This has allowed the centre to safely re-open and ensure your confidence and comfort is maintained.

Wear it purple day

Wear It Purple Day is a day of celebration and visibility particularly for young LGBTQ+ Australians. It began 10 years ago in response to global stories of teenagers and young people experiencing exclusion, bullying and harassment, and the impacts of a lack of acceptance of their sexuality, gender identity or sex characteristics.

This year's theme was ''We Are The Change''. At MUSAC were proud to support this, continuing to create an environment where everyone feels safe, supported, and proud of who they are not just on WIP day, but every day.

To all those members who “Wore it Purple” showing our LGBTQ+ young people they are seen and supported by the MQ community, exactly as they are…. THANK YOU !

Indigenous literacy week

In support of our commitment to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, Walanga Muru and Campus Life have created a series of events that began Monday of this week, bringing the Macquarie community together to celebrate Indigenous Literacy Day, highlighting Indigenous culture, and stories and language to raise awareness of the challenges facing remote Indigenous communities regarding literacy levels.

We are hosting a book swap exchange in the MUSAC reception area all week, with funds raised going directly to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF) – a community driven organisation dedicated to providing books and literacy programs for indigenous children in remote communities.

  • Have a book to swap during the week? Put your book in the ‘incoming’ box, accept
donation and pick up a book.
  • Don’t have a book to swap? You can still pick up a book for a gold coin donation.
  • Don’t have cash on the day? Scan the QR code on our poster to donate directly to the ILF.

How much should I donate? A gold coin donation per book as a guide – coins, notes and online donations of any amount will be accepted.

As always, if you have any feedback for us, we would love to receive it – the good, the bad and the ugly. If you have a submission you’d like to make, feel free to share via the online enquiry form.

Until next time – stay safe.

Yours in health and fitness,

Christian Renford
