When your job requires you to sit and stare at a screen all day (which is about 95% of us), it's tough to feel motivated to move.
However, there are some simple (and subtle) exercises you can do while you're tapping on your keyboard.
- Foot flutters: sitting in your chair (duh), brace your abs, sit up straight to lengthen your spine and have your legs out straight (the higher they are, the harder). Now start doing little flutter kicks up and down. Try 5 x 30-seconds.
- Bum squeezes: it's something which sounds simple, but many of us struggle with it. Squeeze your glutes (bum cheeks) together as hard as you can for 15 seconds ensuring your posture is perfect. Then try and squeeze/activate just your left one for 30sec. Now your right one for 30-seconds. Repeat x 5.
- Leg plank: put your ankles and knees together and lift you legs up, straight off the ground. Try and hold them in this 'L' type position for 30-seconds. Repeat x5.
- Abdominal chair rotations: having your feet off the floor, and your finger tips on the desk, swivel one way in your desk chair. To slow down/change direction, try not to use your finger tips, but your abs. Don't forget to breathe while you do this one!
And remember to get up and walk around every 30-minutes if you can! It's good for your circulation, eyes, posture, mental clarity and more!
