FAQS – GYMNASTICS ROOF UPGRADE PERIOD

Reason for Closure

Q: Why is the gymnastics hall closing?

A: The gymnastics hall will be temporarily closed to allow for important roof upgrades. These works are being completed to improve the safety, quality, and overall experience of our facilities, ensuring the best environment for our gymnasts when we return in 2026.

Q: What do the upgrades include?

A: The upgrades will include a complete replacement of the existing roof, which will also support the future planned installation of sustainable solar panels.

Closure Timeline

Q: How long will the hall be closed?

A: The closure will begin on October 27th and is expected to last until January 2026.

Q: What is the expected reopening date?

A: We are aiming to return to the gymnastics hall for the start of Term 1 Gymnastics.

Safety & Quality

Q: Will the temporary facility be safe for my child?

A: Yes! Our coaches have worked hard to develop programs that are safe and enjoyable for all levels of our program.

Q: Are there mats and equipment suitable for all ages and levels?

A: Yes! All skill levels will be able to train, improve and develop their gymnastics skills, strength, flexibility and shaping during this period.

Q: Will there be enough space for the same activities?

A: While the space may be configured differently, we have adapted lesson plans to make the most of the available area without compromising on skill development or safety.

Communication & Updates

Q: How will you keep us informed about progress?

A: Updates will be shared regularly via email, and on our website

Q: Who do I contact with questions during the closure?

A: You can speak with our Gymnastics Team, our reception team or email any questions to Gymnastics@mq.edu.au

Classes & Program Continuity

Q: Will the timetable change?

A: Yes, there will be some changes to the timetable, including adjustments to class times, locations, and the feasibility of running all classes. Most classes will continue as normal despite the location changes. If your child’s class is affected, you will have received an email with the updated details. If you are unsure or have not received this information, please contact us for confirmation.

Q: Where will classes be held?

A: Classes will still be held at our facility but will be relocated to other areas, including the Recreational Hall, Poolside Studio, and Martial Arts Studio. Each space will be set up with the appropriate mats and apparatus to support safe and effective training.

Q: Will the program still cover the same skills?

A:  Yes. While training spaces and equipment will be adjusted, our coaches have adapted lesson plans to ensure gymnasts continue working on their key skills, strength, flexibility, and technique. Where full apparatus is not available, equivalent drills and progressions will be used to maintain skill development.

Q: Will assessments still go ahead?

A: Adjusted assessments will take place, recognising skill progression to best allocate gymnasts in classes that are safe and challenging for the new year.

Q: Will my child’s progress be impacted?

A: No, our programs have been carefully planned to ensure skill development continues through targeted drills, shaping, strength, and flexibility work. This approach will prepare gymnasts to return to full apparatus training ready to advance their skills.

Q: Are parents allowed to stay and watch?

A: Yes, parents are welcome to stay and watch. Please note that the viewing of the program in the Recreational Hall may be partially obstructed. As part of our supervision policy, parents of children under the age of 7 are given priority in the viewing area, however all parents are welcome to utilise the viewing area or remain within the centre.

Fees, Memberships & Payments

Q: Will fees change during the closure?

A: Some programs will have adjusted fees to reflect changes in program length during the closure period. Where class durations remain the same, fees will not change. Any adjustments will be clearly communicated before the start of the term.

Q: Can I pause my enrolment until the hall reopens?

A: Yes. Given the unique circumstances, families may request a discretionary enrolment pause for the duration of the roof upgrade works and you will not be charged during this period. Our team is here to support you, so please get in touch if you’d like to discuss this option.

Q: What happens in the new year, if I pause my enrolment during the roof upgrade closure period?

A: Families who choose to pause their enrolment while the roof upgrades take place will be automatically re-enrolled into their original class when programs resume in 2026, so your child won’t lose their place.

Q: How will replacement sessions work during this time?

A: Replacement sessions will continue as normal during the closure period. If you choose to use the discretionary enrolment pause, you will have 30 program days to use your replacement sessions once we return in 2026. We recommend using any replacement sessions accrued prior to the roof upgrade closure.

Dear Gymnastics Enrollees,

Macquarie University Sport and Aquatic Centre (MUSAC) are thrilled to announce the Gymnastics Hall will soon undergo essential roof repairs and upgrades. This is an investment that will significantly enhance the comfort and experience of Gymnastics enrollees – ensuring the quality, safety and longevity of our facility.

Why this is great news:

  • Improved safety and comfort – a new roof means better insulation, reduced leaks and a more enjoyable training environment for enrollees, coaches and spectators
  • Weatherproofing for all seasons – no more disruptions due to rain or heat in a year-round temperate environment
  • Long term investment in our Gymnastics Program – these upgrades are a part of our commitment to providing facilities that support the growth and success of our gymnastics community

What does this mean for the Gymnastics Program?

To ensure these works are completed efficiently and to the highest standards, the Gymnastics Hall will temporarily close from Monday 27th October 2025 and re-open in January 2026.

Works have been scheduled for this period to allow the least amount of impact to Gymnastics programming ahead of 2026.

During this time Gymnastics classes will be relocated to the Recreation Hall of MUSAC.

What do you have to do and what’s next?

Nothing. In the coming weeks we will be in touch to confirm logistically what this means for everyone – including timetabling, general program information and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).

We are excited what the delivery of a new roof will provide for your Gymnastics experience at MUSAC and look forward to delivering programs in this environment.

We look forward to sharing further updates with you very soon.

Yours in health and fitness,

Macquarie University Sport and Aquatic Centre Team
