Child Safety at Our Centre: What Parents and Carers Need to Know
Keeping children safe is our highest priority. To support a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone, we ask all parents and carers to be familiar with our age requirements and supervision expectations, particularly when children are using aquatic and program areas.
We adhere to the Royal Life Saving Society Australia Keep Watch at public pools Program, applicable to Children up to 14 years. The Keep Watch Program applies to all children aged 0–14 years when using the pool for Casual Swim and recreational activities. This means an actively supervising adult must be present, alert, and able to respond at all times.
You can find this information on our website here
Supervision expectations vary by age and ability:
- 0–5 years and non‑swimmers - Adults must stay within arm’s reach at all times.
- 6–10 years and weak swimmers - Adults must be close, be prepared, and maintain constant visual contact.
- 11–14 years - Adults must maintain visual contact at all times while the child is in the water.
For these age groups, children must be accompanied by an adult, and the adult is required to remain in the pool area for the duration of the visit.
Once a child turns 15 years old, the Keep Watch Program no longer applies. However, for safety and centre access reasons:
- 15‑year‑olds must still be accompanied by a parent or carer when entering the centre
- Parents are responsible for ensuring their child understands and follows all centre rules and conditions of entry
Programs and activities – supervision matters
Different programs have specific age and supervision requirements:
Gymnastics
- Under 7 years: An adult must stay in the Gymnastics area during the lesson
- 7–12 years: Must be accompanied to and from the Gymnastics Hall
- 12+ years: May attend sessions unaccompanied, and remain in the gymnastics hall under coach supervision
Learn to Swim
- Children up to 16 years must be accompanied by an adult who remains in the pool area
Squads
- Squad swimmers may enter pool areas unaccompanied during authorised training times only
- Access to other areas is limited and must be under supervision as outlined in squad conditions
Lifeguards and staff are here to support safety, but they do not replace active adult supervision. Your attention and involvement play a vital role in preventing accidents and ensuring a positive experience for all children.
Thank you for helping us create a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable environment for every family. If you have any questions about age requirements or supervision, our team is always happy to help.
Youth State Age Championships
Macquarie University Swimming Club delivered an impressive performance at the recent NSW Youth State Age Championships, with athletes showcasing strong growth, commitment, and team spirit across the weekend.
The team made significant progress year-on-year, increasing their overall points tally from 134 in 2025 to 227 in 2026, while climbing the rankings from 43rd to 25th. This improvement was supported by a larger and stronger team, with 15 swimmers representing the club, up from 12 last year, and five medals secured across the meet.

Performance in the pool was equally strong, with every swimmer achieving at least one personal best. In total, 30 personal bests were recorded from 39 individual races, alongside a perfect result from the relay teams, with all six teams delivering personal best performances.
Throughout the championships, the team remained focused and resilient, maintaining a high standard across the full program. The support from families also played an important role in creating a positive and energetic environment across the weekend
Returning state-level swimmers continued to step up, expanding their race programs and gaining valuable experience across multiple events, reflecting the ongoing development of the squad.
Congratulations to all swimmers, as well as Coach Tom and Coach Oliver, for their leadership and preparation in achieving these results. The continued progress shown across the program is a strong indicator of what lies ahead.

Good News for Parking at MUSAC
You may have noticed that the hoarding around the newly built RNA Facility has started to be removed — an exciting milestone as we move closer to improved parking access.
Last week, new line marking was carried out in the North 3 car park and from 7 April, the North 3 car park had 17 car spaces reinstated for member use, helping to improve parking availability and make visits to the centre more convenient.
Thank you for your understanding during this period of change. We look forward to welcoming you with increased parking options very soon.
