Martial arts programs for adults

Designed to build confidence our martial arts programs are open to everyone.

Macquarie University Sport and Aquatic Centre offers adult martial arts programs open to university students, community members, and adult practitioners of all levels.

Beginners can learn the basics in a safe, friendly and constructive environment, while experienced students have the opportunity to continue their training and improve their skills with some of the most experienced instructors in Australia.

Our disciplines

  • Brazilian jiu-jitsu (adults)
  • Boxing (adults)
  • Muay Thai kickboxing (adults)

A martial art and combat sport system with an emphasis on ground fighting techniques that focus on position, control and submissions such as chokes, arm locks and leg locks.

Boxing is a contest of strength, speed, reflexes and endurance. In this high-intensity program, you will learn techniques that focus on partner work and sparring. Learn in a fun and collaborative environment.

Muay Thai is a combat sport that uses stand-up striking along with various clinching techniques. This discipline is known as the 'art of eight limbs', as it is characterised by the combined use of fists, elbows, knees and shins.

Our facilities

Our dedicated martial arts space offers floor room and equipment, including:

  • wall-mounted pull-up bar
  • wall-mounted punching bag
  • wall-mounted uppercut unit
  • wall-mounted straight punch wall pad
  • cotton inners (which can be purchased at the centre).

Note: for hygiene reasons we ask that trial-members bring or purchase their own cotton inner gloves if you require the use of the centre’s boxing gloves. Upon joining the program, we recommend buying your own pair of gloves for personal use.

  • Classes are for ages 16 years and older.
  • You must hold a membership for the disciplines you wish to attend.
  • Memberships can be purchased online or at the front desk of the centre.
  • Newcomers can join at any time.
