Martial arts programs for adults
Designed to build confidence our martial arts programs are open to everyone.
Macquarie University Sport and Aquatic Centre offers adult martial arts programs open to university students, community members, and adult practitioners of all levels.
Beginners can learn the basics in a safe, friendly and constructive environment, while experienced students have the opportunity to continue their training and improve their skills with some of the most experienced instructors in Australia.

A martial art and combat sport system with an emphasis on ground fighting techniques that focus on position, control and submissions such as chokes, arm locks and leg locks.
Boxing is a contest of strength, speed, reflexes and endurance. In this high-intensity program, you will learn techniques that focus on partner work and sparring. Learn in a fun and collaborative environment.
Muay Thai is a combat sport that uses stand-up striking along with various clinching techniques. This discipline is known as the 'art of eight limbs', as it is characterised by the combined use of fists, elbows, knees and shins.
Our facilities
Our dedicated martial arts space offers floor room and equipment, including:
- wall-mounted pull-up bar
- wall-mounted punching bag
- wall-mounted uppercut unit
- wall-mounted straight punch wall pad
- cotton inners (which can be purchased at the centre).
Note: For hygiene reasons we recommend that participants bring their own cotton inner gloves if you require the use of the centre’s boxing gloves. Upon joining the program, we recommend buying your own pair of gloves for personal use.
- Classes are for ages 16 years and older.
- Holding a Martial Arts enrollment grants you access to all disciplines.
- Memberships can be purchased online or at the front desk of the centre.
- Newcomers can join at any time.
- Casual class bookings can be made a maximum of 48 hours in advance.

Boxing - Bayan Yazdani
Bayan Yazdani is a skilled and experienced boxing coach who has been teaching clients through his own business since 2019. He brings both practical coaching knowledge and competitive success to every session.
As a former NSW State Champion, ‘King of the Ring’ titleholder, and National ‘Golden Gloves’ Champion, Bayan has a proven track record in the ring. In 2024, he transitioned to professional boxing, further deepening his insight into the sport.
Bayan’s classes are welcoming and suitable for both beginners and experienced boxers. His coaching style emphasizes safety, support, and a positive environment—whether your goal is fitness, weight loss, confidence, or competition.
As a professional athlete, Bayan also guides those interested in competitive boxing, offering valuable advice on pathways to amateur or professional levels.
BJJ/Muay Thai Kickboxing - Vic Fox
Vic Fox is a 3rd Degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt and a certified Black T-Shirt in Muay Thai Kickboxing under Anthony Perosh. Anthony Perosh is a 5th Degree BJJ Black Belt, Muay Thai Black T-Shirt, BJJ World Champion, and UFC veteran.
With over two decades of experience in BJJ and Muay Thai Kickboxing, Coach Vic has competed in both BJJ and MMA. He has been coaching since 2010, including many years at Macquarie University Sports and Aquatic Centre.
