Pride Month Re-cap

Pride Month concluded on Thursday 30th June 2022, and MUSAC was proud to facilitate several themed classes across the month, as well as a Pride round of Social Sport, where players and officials wore rainbow armbands.

Members and patrons will have noticed many of the rainbow balloon archways throughout various entry points of the centre.

At MUSAC and Campus Life we are committed to providing a safe, fun, and inclusive environment for all people, including those of diverse sexualities and genders.

We celebrate diversity of sex, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, intersex status, ability, skill, cultural background, ethnicity, location, religious or political beliefs, and life stage. There is a place for you in our programs, exactly as you are.

NAIDOC Week

National NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year, to celebrate and recognise the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth. You can support and get to know your local Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities through activities and events held across the country.

The theme for 2022 is Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up!

Whether it’s seeking proper environmental, cultural and heritage protections, Constitutional change, a comprehensive process of truth-telling, working towards treaties, or calling out racism—we must do it together.

It must be a genuine commitment by all of us to Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up! and support and secure institutional, structural, collaborative, and cooperative reforms.

It’s also time to celebrate the many who have driven and led change in our communities over generations—they have been the heroes and champions of change, of equal rights and even basic human rights.

To celebrate NAIDOC Week MUSAC Social Competitions participants will wear NAIDOC themed sport bibs (pictured, with artists and Walanga Muru students, Brandon Gooley, Olivia Anderson, Bronte Charles).

MUSAC and Macquarie University are committed to supporting, acknowledging, and celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Click here to read the University Reconciliation Statement and Indigenous Strategy.
