Speak with our team so we can match support to your needs.
MUSAC is committed to ensuring all community members can safely enjoy our aquatic spaces. The following supports and guidelines help us maintain safe and inclusive pool access for everyone.
Pool access hoist
Our pool access hoist can safely support up to 200kg. A wheelchair seat and floating sling are available for use in:
- the 25m indoor pool (lane 1)
- the 50m outdoor pool (lane 8).
Booking the hoist
To ensure the hoist is available and set up appropriately, contact our team in advance by:
- email at macsport@mq.edu.au
- phone on +61 (2) 9850 7636.
Ramp lane
The ramp lane in the 25m pool is designed solely for safe entry and exit. If there are booked lessons using the lane, let the centre staff know so we can facilitate your access to the swimming/recreation lane via the ramp.
To ensure accessibility for everyone:
- a wet area wheelchair is available upon request
- lifeguards will monitor the area to maintain safe access
- the pool entry and exit ramp is available at all times that recreation swimming is permitted.
We encourage you to book in advance for both the hoist and the ramp lane so we can provide the safest and highest level of assistance and ensure your wait time is reduced.
Note: during peak times, there may be a short wait for the hoist, wet area wheelchair or access via the ramp.
Swimming with a disability
Swimming and other water activities contribute positively to the health and wellbeing of all people, including those with disability.
Physical, sensory, cognitive and attitudinal barriers can sometimes limit participation and MUSAC is committed to reducing these barriers wherever possible. Everyone has the right to enjoy the water safely.
To help us ensure the appropriate safety measures are in place, let our staff know upon arrival and before you enter the water if you are:
- a weak or non-swimmer
- a swimmer with a disability
- a carer or support person for someone who requires additional assistance.
We also encourage support people to enter the water as an additional safeguard where applicable.
Lifeguard supervision
Lifeguards are employed on a ratio of one lifeguard:100 patrons and must maintain clear visibility and supervision of the entire pool environment at all times. Informing staff of access needs or support requirements helps us plan safe and inclusive supervision.
A range of accessible transport options are available around our precinct, including Macquarie University Metro Station.
Accessible parking
Accessible parking bays are available close to MUSAC facilities in West 5 and North 3 carparks. A valid Mobility Parking Scheme (MPS) permit or equivalent must be displayed.
Designated drop-off and collection zones support easier access for visitors with mobility needs.
Carpark shuttle service
Where available our reception team can organise a member of staff to shuttle you to your car in our centre buggy. When you arrive, just let reception know what time you require this service.
Note: during peak times, there may be a wait for the shuttle service.
We aim to make all MUSAC digital content as accessible as possible. Our commitment includes:
- avoiding use of flashing or animated elements that may cause harm
- providing alternative (alt) text for images
- providing captions for videos.
If you encounter barriers on our website or digital platforms, let us know so we can resolve them quickly.
